Inspiration

Hello home, Theresa Gross

Theresa Gross lives in Berlin and works as a stylist. Her interest in fashion began as a child when she helped her mother choose nice clothes and advise doubting customers in the clothing store she worked in as a teenager. Inspiration is everywhere, she says, and art is an important part of life. Meet her in a personal interview and find out what her best winter tips are.

Dear Theresa! How are you today?
I'm good thank you:)

Describe yourself in three words!
Creative, positive and spontaneous.

"I weirdly always knew how I wanted to look and what I wanted to wear"

Where does your interest in fashion come from?
I
honestly can't really tell where my interest in fashion originally rooted from but I can remember that I have always loved it also as a kid. I weirdly always knew how I wanted to look and what I wanted to wear. I think that things like Sex and the City sparked my interest in fashion even more and I knew I wanted to work in this field. My first job when I was 14 was in a clothingstore in my hometown and my boss was this flamboyant older woman that wore long old shearling coats and always carried a balenciaga city bag. I looked at her and wanted to be like her when I grow old. Somehow my path then always evolved around fashion and very naturally grew over there years, and here we are now :)

How would you describe your home?
I would say my home represents me quite well. It really is the outcome of years of collecting, combining, travelling and no fear of combining everything there is. I am a maximalist by heart and always have been so I naturally find stuff wherever I go. Or stuff finds me, haha?

You have an amazing taste in fashion as well as interior.Where do you find inspiration- both for your job and for your apartment?
I'm inspired by really pretty much everything. From art to music, to people and the buzzing streets outside my door. I can be inspired by a meal or a beautfiul plate. By a bouquet of flowers or an amazing photograph. Inspiration is everywhere - everywhere is inspiration!

"When I then found out that celebrities have stylists and it's actually a real job within the industry I knew that it was for me!"

Can you name one must-have for ones closet and one for ones apartment?
A must have to me is art! Plaster your walls and create an atmosphere that makes you happy and your eyes can travel. I love to sit on my couch and look around, there is always something to discover.

What did you dream of becoming when you were little?
I always dreamt of being in fashion, sounds boring but it really is the thruth.

And when did you realise that you wanted to be a stylist?
I never really knew when I was young that the job existed but I've always helped my mother to pick an outfit before she went out on the weekends with my father or helped people find the right clothes in the shops that I worked at from when I was 14. when I then found out that celebrities have stylists and it's actually a real job within the industry I knew that it was for me!

Can you give some tips for surviving the cold season in Berlin?
Make your home cozy, light candles, have baths, cook warm meals for your loved ones, host movie nights, embrace the change of seasons, I love it!

And last but not least: Name your best go-to places in Berlin!
My fave places in no particular order: Studio Linne for flowers, Lon mens noodlehouse for food, Annelies for brekkie, Kryza for vintage shopping and Voo store on saturdays for browsing.
