”The motif is part of my serie ”Madeleines” from my graduate project at Beckmans, school of design. I studied how memories and experiences is contained in an object. How you can use an object to remember certain events, people or stories. Based on five people that came to Sweden as refugees, I studied some of the objects that they brought with them. What they mean and symbolizes. From those stories I created illustrations of their memories of heritage, family and identity." - Isabel Leal Bergstrand

Isabel Leal Bergstrand is an illustrator, artist and pattern designer who lives and works in Stockholm. She is educated at Beckman's School of Design, the program for visual communication. Since graduating in 2014, she has worked as a freelancer. Isabel works colorfully and by hand, especially with felt-tip pens. She likes smart solutions and wants her illustrations to be interesting, sometimes funny and meaningful. She is inspired by fashion, animals and plants, geometric shapes and colors.
