TWWP x Wall of Art

A portrait of: Evelina Kroon

With conversation as inspiration, the human encounter, a special aptitude for color and a large collection of tape, the artist EVELINA KROON creates colorful art that is both graphic and eclectic. At Evelina's home in Hagsätra, we had our own meeting which resulted in a conversation about the self, life and expression. Now Evelina is up to date with a strong collection of artworks with us.

Evelina and three months old Judi Lee.

Hi Evelina, who are you?
- I'm someone's mother, big sister, daughter, girl. Typically someone who gets energy from others and likes socially but on my terms. Also in great need of recovery. Is basic but also driven. Much so that lately I identify with my performance. I may be funny and strict, usually honestly described as such. But is very uneven, sometimes really dull and indistinct. Incredibly distracting. I have a good self-perception and the bad thing about it is that I can become rigid and self-conscious. For example on social media. Is absolutely uglier but more fun in reality. I prefer that?

Tell me about your family!
Gustaf, my boyfriend and my daughters, Yoko Meg and Judi Lee, who is the best thing that has happened to my world, the nicest and proudest I have.
Also has a mother, another mother, a father and five younger siblings. A grandmother, an aunt, uncle and cousins that I count as my immediate family.
And the family of friends! I gather friends but I'm not very good at nurturing and prioritizing as I would like because t i m e is in short supply. At the same time, I am so proud that most of the people we hang out with have been with us for more than half my life.

Your art is perceived as consistent and accurate. Does it reflect who you are?
- No, I would not say that. Or maybe to some extent, as I said, I can be really structured, but if you know me well, you know that it is constant chaos. Also, my art is not very consistent or accurate but do not mind it being experienced that way?largelarge

"AND SO I STILL NEED SOME KIND OF STRUCTURE AND RECYCLING METHOD SO MY BRAIN CAN FOCUS. LIKE BOXES, STRIPES. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT IT GOES FAST FROM IDEA TO ACTION. I'M A COLLECTOR OF TAPE, SO IT'S NOT A SURPRISE THAT THE THINGS I DO LOOK LIKE IT DOES. "

How did you find your expression?
- I want to say that I have a penchant for color - and a lot of knowledge, even if subjective - and color compositions. Another talent I have is eye size. And then I probably still need some kind of structure and recurring method so my brain can focus. Like squares, stripes. It is important that it goes quickly from idea to action. And then I collect tape. It's not so strange that what I do looks like it does.

Where are you educated?
- Art school Basis, Konstfack.

Tell us about your technology, is it tape and acrylic you work with?
- Yes, together with varnish and glue and almost exclusively on mdf. I work completely intuitively, sometimes it goes fast sometimes it takes forever.

What do you see for your artistry in the future? What are your dreams?
- More time and space! Keep finding interesting, fun, rewarding collaborations. Development, even if what I do exactly can continue for a while, I want to move on. Do not stagnate. Maybe combine painting with writing and more lengthy projects. Be able to live well on what I do fully.left_50right_50

What are you up to date with during the autumn?
- My collaboration with Wall of Art, a new product for Svenskt Tenn and some other collaborations. But most focus I will still try to put on being a mother. Should be on parental leave as much as possible.

Tell us about your WoA posters, are they named after months?
- Yes, it happened, I wanted to make a separate motif dedicated to my daughters, but did not want it so personal so it became their months of birth, and Judi got May because that was when we thought she would come, but because she was born June 1 she got another. Then I refilled with the rest of the family members.

Which season is your favorite?
- Late spring and early autumn! Can not choose.

Where can you be found, do you have a gallery owner?
- No, and I am involuntarily difficult to reach.

How do you think about style in terms of interior design?
- I mean that the most important thing is that you are surrounded by things you like and enjoy. But do not know, do not trust myself when it comes to what I think is nice and so, is very changeable. Except with color and some material choices, there I am consistent. but it is not so important. As a result, our home is constantly changing, but it is important to work with what is available and make well-thought-out purchases, of course. Is completely to bring something into their home with zero function and just too nice. But also love function. And I'm probably also sensitive to trends, even if I do not think so. Is a collector anyway and would definitely feel better from more surface and less fuss but will never have it that way. So I really love the void I just can not bear to be in it. Therefore, it is difficult to leave a surface alone.left_50right_50left_50right_50

List three sources of inspiration!
- The conversation! Talk to people. Gets so much out of conversations with colleagues friends women. For example, talking to my best friend Siri Carlén almost daily, would be nothing without her.
Internet.
Meg's awake eyes, and the observations that come out of it.

How nice! What do you do when you are not working?
- Rests, watches TV, is a mother, fixes, eats, drinks.

What do you want to recommend?
- Anchovy olives! There is so much talk about umami but far too little about them. And I'm afraid they're being phased out of the grocery store. Anchovy olives ARE umami.

What is your favorite place?
- Home.

What makes you balanced?
- Rest. Food. Conversations. Wine and water.

Do you live by any philosophy of life?
- Act and be kind. The collective's best before the individual, of course!largeleft_50right_50

"IS FULLY TO BRING SOMETHING INTO HIS HOME WITH ZERO FUNCTION AND JUST TOO NICE. BUT ALSO LOVE FUNCTION. AND I AM SURE SELF SENSITIVE TO TRENDS EVEN IF I DON'T BELIEVE IT".
